Backsplash ideas for white cabinets white countertops: Let’s start with a basic question to our new article! What is the meaning of backsplash? The legal definition of the backsplash is a vertical surface designed to protect the wall behind a stove or countertop. Since we know what is it, we can try to look up kitchen and vanity countertop applications. Well years ago, when we started building new homes we used to put Formica countertop in our kitchens which comes together with a 4″ high backsplash.

Then we painted till the bottom of the wall cabinets. The main purpose of that was to protect back walls from flooding or something. In addition to that, the backsplash was a cover-up material to close uneven gaps between the drywall and base cabinets. After the installation, we can have a neat straight line for painting.
